Saturday April 30, 2011 - 5 miles along the canal

I've tried 1-2 miles on the treadmill several times and that ended in pain. Today I was dying to go on the 14 mile marathon training run with friends but I knew there was no way I could go that far so I thought I would try 2 miles once again. I'm happy to say that I went just over 5 miles with very little pain. I am trying not to get too excited but so hoping and praying this means I'm on the mend and can get back to training. I did feel a twinge here and there but not nearly as bad as before so I'm hopeful yet maybe a little skeptical. It felt so great to get out there and run and although I couldn't go the distance with the others, at least I got to go part of the way. It was very hard for me to make myself turn around miles before they did but I'm trying to take it easy and ease back into this and avoid further injury. Down to six weeks until the marathon so I've lost critical training time but if I can run from here on out, hopefully I can at least finish the race even if it's pretty slow.

No Run Saturday #2 - Boo Hoo - April 16, 2011

I tried running two miles this past week and my hip felt like it was going to crack open. Oh this is getting depressing. I can bike, stair master, eliptical, and walk but the minute I run I'm in pain. There are apparently more endorphines released when you run (at least for me) because I'm feeling the blues from not being able to get out there and go. It's also stressing me out that the weeks are ticking by and I'm losing precious marathon training time. I'm trying to be patient (despite what it may seem) but I've had so many injuries (other hip, foot, shoulder, and now this hip) that I've had to stop running several times. I don't know if I just run funky or have weak joints or what but I know people that run and run and aren't always getting injured like I am. So I'm feeling a little whiney right now. I'm hoping like heck that next Saturday I can run, even if it's only 3 miles.

No Run Saturday - April 9, 2011

Last week's 17 mile run left me with a pretty bad hip and then I ran six miles on Wednesday which was very painful. It seems that I need to take some time off running. This was my biggest fear in signing up for a marathon, that the training would do me in. So I haven't run in four days, I missed my Saturday run with my buddies which has left me in a funk, and I am still in some pain. I hate getting old! I'm trying to keep up my endurance with other cardio that isn't as hard on my hips and hope to be back to running before too long. I have 9 weeks till the marathon and although I am not getting the training in that I need, I'm not giving up hope. I want to do this...BADLY.

Power Line Run - 17 miles - April 2, 2011

Three more people joined us for our Saturday run today and we (speaking for myself) had a great time. In training for the Utah Valley Marathon, we headed out at 5:30am to get in 17 miles before the sun beat us up too much. We had a cooler with cold Gu Brew, water and gels waiting for us along our path where we stopped to refuel and refill each way. This was my longest run to date and other than my hip having some very serious pain for the last 8 or so miles, I felt pretty great.
A man riding his bike was kind enough to take our picture. This is after the run so we are pretty hot and tired here but still smiling.
